The mail server is slow or denies connections

There may be too much traffic on the mail server. Consider moving the mail server to another computer.
Increase the memory allocated to the mail server program.
Check your DNS service. Since the mail server relies on DNS service, if your DNS service is slow, your mail service will appear slow. You may need to upgrade to a faster, higher-fidelity DNS service.
Your TCP/IP preferences file may be damaged. Locate the TCP/IP Prefs file in the Preferences folder in the System Folder on your server's startup disk, and throw it away. Restart your server. A new, empty preferences file is created. (You need to reconfigure your TCP/IP control panel.)
